February 25th, 2008 · No Comments

When a person has suffered from acne for any length of time they will go to many extremes to fix the problem. They may have tried all manner of medications, face washes and maybe even surgery. Many people think about herbal and natural treatments too but it is surprising how little is known about herbal acne remedies. This article concentrate on Dandelion and acne. It will show that it is a good natural source for skin problems and acne.

Using dandelion for acne treatment and many other skin problems has gone on for many centuries. Dandelion has been a staple ingredient in many old medical traditions, particular in Europe where apothecaries would mix tinctures and potions that comprised of many natural herbs and plants. It has possibly gone out of favor as a treatment for acne today because there are so many other products available that are easier to use and marketed and packaged in a more attractive way.

How Dandelion Is Used

Dandelion is probably best known as a weed that spoils your lawn and is promptly attacked with some form of weed killer. However the common dandelion is widely used in different medicines and even in some culinary dishes. It is a good source of vitamins A, B, C, and D. Not only that, but Dandelion is rich in zinc potassium, calcium, boron, magnesium, copper, choline, and silicone.

It is normally used to detoxify the body. This is seen as an effective way to rid the skin of acne as it allows toxins to leave the body by a normal process of excretion through the liver. It is known as a good diuretic because it allows the body to get rid of waste without losing essential minerals and vitamins. It is commonly prepared as a tincture or the dried roots can be added to a drink like tea.

Thus waste products that may try to leave the body through the skin, resulting in pimples, blemishes and spots, will leave the body through the liver and kidneys where they will be excreted normally.

Dandelion is not only used for skin problems like acne or psoriasis. It is also useful in treating and soothing ailments such as bloating, aching joints, and gastrointestinal tract problems. Again, it is it’s detoxifying qualities that are thought to treat these conditions.

Summary

It is certainly worth giving Dandelion a try as it is fairly easy to use and could soothe your acne problems. You can get the dried roots from health stores and natural produce stores. Ask about them and follow the instructions on use carefully before using them.
